This module focuses on self aid and the practical skills needed to manage injuries and medical emergencies when help may be hours or days away. Students will learn how to treat the 5 Bs (Bleeding, Blisters, Burns, Breaks, and Bites) with the use of their kit andย resources from their environment. Students will learn how to assess their condition and prioritize treatment under stress using frameworks provided by the American Red Cross and Health and Safety Institute. The course also covers the design and construction of an Individual First Aid Kit (IFAK). Students will learn what medical supplies provide the greatest value in the field, how to tailor an IFAK to personal needs and trip objectives, and how to bridge the gap between carried equipment and improvised solutions from the landscape. By the end of the module, participants will have a practical understanding of wilderness self aid, environmental medicine, injury prevention, and how to confidently manage the most likely medical emergencies encountered outdoors using both modern equipment and available environmental resources. ๐๐๐ฒ ๐๐จ๐ฉ๐ข๐๐ฌ ๐๐จ๐ฏ๐๐ซ๐๐ - Self assessment and patient evaluation - The ABCs: Airway, Breathing, Circulation, Disability, Exposure - The 5 Bs: Bleeding, Blisters, Burns, Breaks, and Bites & Stings - Hypothermia, hyperthermia, and environmental exposure - Using natural materials for treatment - Building and customizing an IFAK (Individual First Aid Kit) - Resource based problem solving in medical emergencies - Self rescue and evacuation considerations - Prevention and preparedness in remote environments Ready to build confidence in emergency situations and strengthen your wilderness preparedness? ๐๐๐ฌ๐๐ซ๐ฏ๐ ๐ฒ๐จ๐ฎ๐ซ ๐ฌ๐ฉ๐จ๐ญ ๐ญ๐จ๐๐๐ฒ!
